Who we are

Information Collected by this Website

Contact Form & Mailing List Sign Up

This website contains one or more contact forms that will collect and store the personal identifying information input by the visitor, the date and time submitted, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. The information is emailed to the site owner as well as stored in the website’s database. This information is used so that the owner can respond to inquiries and provide services to prospective students.

This website contains one or more mailing list sign up forms that will collect and store the personal identifying information input by the visitor, as well as the date and time submitted. The information is saved in the owner’s MailChimp account and is used for marketing and informational purposes.

Google Analytics and Search Console

This website contains tracking information via Google Analytics that will record non-personally-identifying information about the visitor’s browser, referral link, pages visited, desktop or mobile device, language, country of origin, and screen size. It may also store information about search terms used to find the website. This information is collected for the owner to understand how the website is performing and to optimize its appearance for different visitors.

Security & Spam Detection

This website logs IP addresses of visitors who attempt to log in to the website in order to limit the number of attempts and prevent brute force attacks.

Comments

Comment fields may be active on blog posts or other pages of this site. When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Your data may be shared with other operating divisions of the Head Lama of the Tibetan Nyingma Meditation Center, including Dharma College, Ratna Ling Retreat Center, and Odiyan Retreat Center. It may also be shared with affiliated organizations that are part of the Nyingma Mandala, including Tibetan Nyingma Relief Foundation, Nyingma Centers, and the Nyingma Institute. Your data is not shared with any other person or entity with the exception of 3rd parties providing services to the website owner who have access to this data in the course of providing those services. This includes the hosting service (DreamHost) and marketing platform (MailChimp).

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment or submit a contact form, the submission and its metadata are potentially retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue; and because the submission may become part of a student’s file or part of our email database. If you unsubscribe from our mailing list, your information will be purged from that system in accordance with MailChimp policies.

What rights you have over your data

If you have submitted personal information on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you by emailing programs@mangalamresearch.org. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
