Dharma & Diversity Online Book Club
At Mangalam Research Center as elsewhere in the Dharma and academic world, we have been contemplating how to better embody our values in regard to creating a more diverse and inclusive space, in which everyone can enjoy studying the Dharma. We realize we have much work to do in this regard. One area in which we feel able to contribute at present is in fostering more awareness and understanding of how structural racism in America affects practitioners of color. To this end we will be hosting a bi-monthly “Dharma and Diversity” book club.
We invite you to join us bi-monthly on the last Sunday of the month, 6:30-8pm Pacific time to discuss the book for that session. This is a small, interactive group – please read the book ahead of time and be prepared to discuss!
Upcoming discussions include:
Sunday, May 30 – Pamela Ayo Yetunde
Sunday, July 25 – Ruth King, Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out
Sunday, September 26 – Chenxing Han, Be the Refuge:Raising the Voices of Asian American Buddhists
Sunday, November 28 – Larry Yang, Awakening Together: the Spiritual Practice of Inclusivity and Community
